Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana.

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana- PMMVY is a maternity benefit program offered by the Government of India, under which a cash incentive of Rs. 5,000 are given to pregnant women and lactating mothers. A family’s first living child is encouraged to meet certain maternal and child health conditions!

Objectives of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana

The government-run program aims to fulfill the following objectives:

Providing compensation for loss of wages in terms of cash incentives so that women can take adequate rest before and after delivery of the first live child. It is a partial compensation which is a part of the scheme to provide a total amount of Rs. 6,000 to a woman on an average. The remaining cash incentive (Rs. 1,000) is provided under Jani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) after institutional delivery.

Improving health-seeking behavior among pregnant women and lactating mothers.

Target beneficiaries of PMMVY Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana

All pregnant women and lactating mothers except those in regular employment with the Central/State Government or Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) or receiving similar benefits under any law.

All eligible pregnant women and lactating mothers whose pregnancy is for the first child in the family on or after January 01, 2017.

The date and stage of pregnancy for the beneficiary is calculated with reference to her last menstrual period (LMP) date as indicated in the Mother and Child Protection (MCP) card.

How to implement Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana

A beneficiary can apply for this scheme only within 730 days from the date of her last menstrual period (MP). The LMP recorded in the MCP card will be treated as the date of pregnancy under the scheme.

All pregnant women and lactating mothers except those in regular employment with the Central/State Government or Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) or receiving similar benefits under any law.

All eligible pregnant women and lactating mothers whose pregnancy is for the first child in the family on or after January 01, 2017.

Eligible beneficiaries will get incentive under Jani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) for institutional delivery and the incentive under JSY will be counted towards maternity benefits so that on an average a woman will get Rs. 6000 get.
